Mumbai airport bomb threat if $1 million bitcoin ransom unpaid

Mumbai police have launched an investigation into a bomb threat at the city’s Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) after receiving a “final warning” from an extortionist via email. The anonymous threat, sent from [email protected], warned of an attack on Terminal 2 within 48 hours unless a ransom demand of $1 million in bitcoin was met. The email had the subject line “Blast” and indicated that another warning would follow in a day.

The email led to immediate action by the authorities today. The Mumbai Police have registered a case under specific sections of the Indian Penal Code for extortion and causing public alarm. They have traced the IP address of the email, but have yet to locate the sender.

This is not an isolated incident. It follows a series of recent threats to the city’s security, including an arrest for a false bomb threat call on August 13 and another false threat in Kamathipura on September 5. Police are taking all necessary precautions and investigations are ongoing to ensure the safety of passengers and airport staff.
